Round corners on a star shape

Hi there

I've saved out a star shape - created in Illustrator CC - which is a stroke as opposed to an outlined stroke.

The SVG when previewed in Internet Explorer retains all visual elements e.g. sharp points, correct stroke weight. However when imported into VS the stroke has rounded corners and seemingly thickens up. I can probably work around the thickness but the rounded corners I can't fix.

I've looked on the answers and community boards, and although I can find slightly similar problems and solutions, none that help in this instance.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Star SVG provided for ref.

Hmn. I opened the svg in illustrator and it looks like it is not a basic stroked path. it seems to be one compound FILLED path and another path with 0 stroke.

Maybe you converted the stroked path to an outline and tried to use the transparent stroke trick with it?

Thanks for the speedy responses Mike.

Apologies. I've been trying so many variants, the one I attached was an older version.

The attached is the simplified vector I've been using but still has the same result.

Unfortunately, I can't open that one (in my older version of illustrator). Please try resaving it using the settings in tip number 7 in the following link as that is probably causing the symptom you are seeing: Making SVG Images Draw Well (2015 update)

Then I think it will work in videoscribe.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Mike. Unfortunately that hasn't done the trick. I've attached a screen grab to show you the comparison.

The pointy star is using an outlined stroke. The rounded one using the stroke.

The issue I have is that I want it to be drawn by the animated hand, otherwise I'd use the outlined version. I may have to settle for a hand bringing the graphic in rather than it being drawn as everything I try seems to make no difference.

WHoops I'm wrong. videoscribe rounded the edges in my test image.. let me try something else.

I'll fix the untitled2 -copy one for you. just a sec.

filled compound path with a zero-opacity stroked path over it (please see attached)

Thanks a million Mike. That does achieve a workaround that's pretty close to the desired affect so will work with that.

It does seem odd that the original rounds the corners off but I guess it's just a quirk on the import. I haven't tried this via inkscape but as I say I'll work with the file you supplied.

Huge thanks for all your help.

Yeah I'm not sure why videoscribe does that (possibly just an early programming decision that has never been re-addressed)... and I THOUGHT I remembered pointed corners working in videoscribe at some time in the past, but there may have been some effect (like flat end-caps) giving me that impression.

You're welcome!
