[Animations and transitions](https://help.videoscribe.co/knowledge/videoscribe?hsLang=en#animations-and-transitions) # Changing the drawing hand ## Learn how to change the drawing hand or pen in VideoScribe VideoScribe allows you to change the default drawing/animation hand for [all projects](https://help.videoscribe.co/knowledge/change-the-hand#all-project) and for [individual elements](https://help.videoscribe.co/knowledge/change-the-hand#Individual-element) within a project. ### **Changing the default hand for all project** 1. Click on the '**Settings**' ![settings](https://help.videoscribe.co/hubfs/settings.svg) button in the **left-hand panel** 2. Here you can select a default animation type to use for each [animation stage](https://help.videoscribe.co/knowledge/animation-stages?hsLang=en), and if applicable you can also select a default hand or pen 3. For each animation stage you can either select the same animation settings '**For all**' element types, or separate ones for '**Images**', '**Text**' and '**Shapes**' ![](https://help.videoscribe.co/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-02-2025-11-24-09-5933-AM.png?width=670&height=573&name=image-png-Oct-02-2025-11-24-09-5933-AM.png) **Top tip:** Select the animation type '**Hand draw**' ![ICONS - Hand Draw (1)](https://help.videoscribe.co/hubfs/Customer%20Success/ICONS%20-%20Hand%20Draw%20(1).svg) if you want to select a hand, '**Pen draw**' ![ICONS - Pen Draw](https://help.videoscribe.co/hubfs/Customer%20Success/ICONS%20-%20Pen%20Draw.svg) to use a pen, or just '**Draw**' ![ICONS - Draw](https://help.videoscribe.co/hubfs/Customer%20Success/ICONS%20-%20Draw.svg) to have elements draw with no hand. ### **Changing the hand for an individual element** 1. Select the element on the canvas or on the timeline 2. In the **right-hand panel**, select the ‘**Animation**’ tab 3.
