Reset zoom?

  • I have a scribe that I've been working on for about a week - it's an hour long webinar and is pretty large at this point. When I first started using VS I zoomed in on the canvas pretty far (~600%) without knowing what I was doing, and now VS keeps crashing and I can hardly get anything done. I read in the forums that the zooming may be eating up too much memory, hence my problem. Is there a way that I can essentially "reset' the zoom on my scribe? Go to the first slide, position it properly, and tell VS that this is the new 100%, instead of 600%? Not sure if this would fix my problem, but I'm trying to not have to recreate my entire scribe on a clean slate.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Joshua,

There is no easy way to do that but if you can Save your scribe online and let us know the name we can take a look at it for you.

  • Thanks Andy - it's uploaded and the title is Massive Mistakes Webinar.

  • Hi Joshua,

I have spent some time on your scribe.

The zooming is not causing the crashing with this scribe - although it's not helping with the memory usage.

The problem is the number of large images - they look like they are imported jpg files - combined with the size of the scribe VideoScribe is using a lot of memory until it gets to the point where it crashes.

What I have done is to remove them all and you now have a scribe that will load and play in the preview, without the images of course so that's not the final solution but at least it gives you something to work with.

Our recommendation would be to reduce the zoom factor by moving things around on the canvas and getting the zoom factor closer to 100% for a lot of the scribe and put the images back in but resize them first - we have used Image Resizer for Windows and it can radically reduce file sizes while still retaining good quality - here is the link http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/

If you think that your scribe is going to get even longer then you might want to split it into 2 - you can join 2 published videos together in Windows Media player - you will need to snip off the last few seconds of the first one to get a seamless join but it works quite well.

  • I have uploaded the scribe to your account as Massive Mistakes Webinar no jpg

  • Hi Andy,

Just wanted to say thanks again for the help on this issue. I split the scribe into 5 parts, as you suggested, and have pieced them together quite seamlessly using another program. Works wonderfully!

  • Hi Rida,

Please save a copy of the scribe to your online directory (cloud icon), open a support ticket, let us know the name of the scribe in the ticket and we can take a look for you.
