Which GIF frame in the timeline

  • I noticed that in the timeline, GIF animations are represented by their first frame. However, the first frame might be blank, as well as the last one. Perhaps a better choice in my mind would be a middle frame.

Why is it important, and why the problem can be annoying? Imagine that I have just one GIF depicting an object appearing - perhaps a fish jumping out of the water, a magic balloon appearing and popping, or a bullet shooting out of an already-drawn gun. Now I duplicate it (maybe a fish is jumping in the other direction). The problem is that now there's no way for me to tell which is which.
