This is the simplest method that I know will work:
A) If you are using adobe illustrator, draw stroked paths using the pen or pencil tool. Use only basic stroked paths with no special styles. If you are using illustrator CC or newer then use the following save options:
B) If you are using inkscape (free at inscape.org) then install version 0.48.5 and draw basic stroked paths with the pen or pencil tool. newer versions of the program may cause problems in videoscribe, and I have not personally verified the workarounds offered in the link below.
C) For more complex methods of making SVGs, the following thread provides a list of known tips and problems:
