Learn how to edit, split, and trim your audio tracks to create perfectly synced VideoScribe projects
Adding audio to your VideoScribe project helps bring your visuals to life. With these simple tools, you can split, trim, and move audio tracks to align seamlessly with your scenes.
Audio settings
When you add an audio track, it will appear in the left-hand audio panel, where tracks are split into two sections:
- Scene audio: Tracks added specifically to the selected scene
- Project audio: Tracks that play throughout the entire project
In the timeline, scene audio appears within the blue scene box, with its waveform highlighted in yellow. Any audio outside this box is considered project audio and plays across the entire project.
Hover over a track in the timeline to see more information about it. To adjust the settings of a specific track, select it, and the right-hand panel will display the following options:
- Play button: Listen to the track
- Volume slider: Adjust the track's volume
- Fade-out: Set the duration for the audio to fade out to silence (maximum is 1.8 seconds from full volume to silence)
- Split button: Divide the track into two parts
Please note: You can have up to 50 audio tracks per project, with a total file size limit of 300MB. Audio limitations are displayed in real-time at the bottom of the right-hand panel.
Editing audio tracks
You have several ways to modify your audio track.
Splitting an audio track
Divide your track into two or more parts:
- Click the ‘Split’ button to activate split mode
- Click on the track you wish to split, and drag your mouse to the point you want to divide
- Confirm the split by pressing ‘Enter’ on your keyboard or selecting ‘Confirm Split’
Your track will now be split into two, with the additional track visible in the left-hand audio panel.
Top tip: Use the Split tool to cut out unwanted sections of your audio. Simply split the track at the start of the section you want to remove and then again at the end of the section you want to remove. You can then delete the split segment. This is perfect for getting rid of mistakes or pauses within your audio.
Trimming an audio track
Trim the beginning or end of a track:
- Select the audio track you want to trim
- Drag the handle at either the beginning or end of the track to adjust its length
- Release the mouse to finalize the trim
Moving an audio track
Move your audio track around to start whenever you want. You can move audio tracks between the scene audio lanes and project audio lanes on the timeline.
- Click and hold the audio track in the timeline
- Drag the track left or right to change its start time, or up and down to move it between lanes
Overlapping tracks in different lanes are supported for more complex sound design.
Top tip: For finer control over your audio, you can resize the timeline by dragging the top of the timeline upwards and adjusting the zoom sliders on the top or left of the advanced timeline. Drag the handle in the middle of the timeline up to expand the audio tracks section.
